Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
